What is inside
What the app offers when you open a lesson
Here is what each part of the app does and where its limits are. The aim is to help you judge whether the lessons suit your routine, your phone and the way you like to learn a language.
- Lesson length
Short daily lessons of about 15 minutes
Each lesson is planned to take around 15 minutes, which suits commutes, breaks and evenings. You can stop part way and continue later. Lessons are short by design, so the app is not built for long study marathons or classroom-style sessions.
- Speaking practice
Dialogues you say aloud
You work through short dialogues such as ordering food, asking directions and small talk. Saying lines aloud helps you move from reading to speaking. The app guides practice, but it is not a replacement for talking with a person.
- Vocabulary
A core course of your first 1000 words
The vocabulary course builds the words you are most likely to use, in a set order, with review along the way. It gives a strong base for beginners. It does not cover specialised or technical vocabulary for particular professions.
- Review
Older words return at the right moment
Review sessions bring back earlier words as you progress, mixed with new material. This keeps vocabulary active over weeks. You still need to come back regularly, because review only helps when it is part of your routine.
- Natural phrasing
Everyday expressions checked by editors
A language editor reviews vocabulary and dialogues for accuracy and natural phrasing before lessons reach you. This helps you sound less like a textbook. Expressions can vary between regions, so a phrase may sound different from one place to another.
- Access
Free tier and a paid subscription
The free tier covers the basics. A paid subscription unlocks the full catalogue and features. The app is made Android-first for everyday phones. Details of billing, cancellation and refunds are in the Payment and Refund Policy.

ContactLessons written to be clear, kind and useful
We keep lessons short, plain and encouraging, so that practising a little every day feels easy and the words you learn are the ones you will actually use.
Babbel started in 2018 with a simple idea: learning a language should fit into a normal day. Our lesson writers plan every course step by step, and editors check each dialogue for accuracy and natural phrasing. We build for adults in India who learn on their phones.
